Q: |
Why doesn't iMage
USB webcam require device driver to be installed prior to use? |
|
| |
A: |
Like many USB HID devices (mouse and keyboard)
and USB Thumb drive devices, our iMage USB webcam device is a truly USB
plug&play device. It is designed adopting Pico Instruments' proprietary
PICOVideoTM
technology which allows the USB video device to be correctly recognized
and seamlessly supported by the operating systems.
Any video
applications (e.g., Skype 2.0, Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger, AIM and
other video viewing/editing/recording software) running on top of the
operating systems thus recognize and communicate with iMage USB webcam through
standard function calls to the operating systems. In other words, the
device driver for iMage USB webcam has already been part of the operating
systems and thus no device driver installation is ever required.

Q: |
What is iMage's USB port requirement? |
|
| |
A: |
iMage USB webcam requires a high-speed USB 2.0
port in order to stream video at full resolution (640 x 480 pixels)
and at full frame rate (15 fps) in real time. It will not stream any
video to the host when it is plugged into a full-speed USB 2.0 or 1.1
port.

Q: |
Are there other similar USB webcam products
that also work with Mac OS X? |
|
| |
A: |
Currently there are two known USB webcam
products by their designs to work with Mac OS X: Iceman (CIF sized CMOS
sensor) from Macally and LogiTech Pro 4000 (VGA sized CMOS sensor) from LogiTech. All
of these webcam products require the installation of their respective device
drivers.

|

Q: |
Can iMage
USB webcam be recognized by QuickTime? Can I use iMage USB webcam to make a QuickTime movie? |
|
| |
A: |
Yes but you will need QuickTime Pro version to
record video and audio. The free version of QuickTime is only a player
which has the audio/video recording features disabled.
As a reminder, QuickTime
Pro also requires audio recording device (Mic In or Line In) to be present
before you can record video. In other words, QuickTime Pro won't allow you
to make a silent movie.

Q: |
Why isn't there a built-in MIC in iMage? |
|
| |
A: |
In order to reduce the annoying acoustic echo
to its minimum level during a video/voice chat, always use a headset with
a built-in microphone. There is no need for iMage USB webcam to add a second
microphone. The purpose of using iMage USB webcam is to get the best live
video.

Q: |
Why isn't there a capture button on iMage
USB
webcam? How can I use iMage USB webcam to take a still picture? |
|
| |
A: |
Since iMage USB webcam can stream real-time video
at the full resolution and at the full frame rate by utilizing the
high-speed USB 2.0 technology which offers a data transfer bandwidth of
480 Mbps, a still image can now be feasibly captured on the host side.
The legacy 'capture button' design on many existing USB webcam products is
due to the fact that it is only possible to stream real-time video at much
reduced image size and frame rate on a full-speed USB 2.0 port. To
capture a full sized image, those webcams were designed to capture the
image by themselves and then transferred the captured image slowly on a
full-speed USB 2.0 port to the host.

Q: |
How do I mount iMage
USB webcam for video chat? |
|
| |
A: |
For Desktop computer, put it right up in front of
your keyboard or right under your monitor so that the remote party seeing
you can get
better eye contact from you while you are typing/chatting.
For Laptop:
iMage can easily clamp onto the laptop display lid. Adjust iMage's upper
portion (the rectangular box where the camera sits inside) to get the
right viewing angle and clamping tightness.

Q: |
After plugging iMage
USB webcam, the computer pops
up this message "This USB device can perform faster if you connect it to a
High Speed USB 2.0 port. For a list ....". What does this message mean and
what should I do to get iMage USB webcam work with my computer? |
|
| |
A: |
It basically tells a) the USB port iMage
USB
webcam is being plugged into is a full-speed USB 2.0 and b) the computer
you are using does have a high-speed USB 2.0 port which iMage can work
with to stream video. To get iMage
USB webcam work with the computer you are
using, try plugging iMage USB webcam into other USB ports on the computer.

Q: |
After plugging iMage
USB webcam, there is no
video, Why? |
|
| |
A: |
Most likely a webcam
device driver was installed on this computer before and such device driver
apparently altered Windows' Video Codec search list to puts itself on the top of the
search list
and claimed it would support YUYV video format but such support was not
implemented correctly. To resolve this issue, download RestoreVideoCodeList fix from our
Downloads page. The fix restores Windows Video Codec search list
by putting back Microsoft's original video codec msyuv.dll on the top of
the search. The fix is harmless because it doesn't modify or delete any
files and the webcam previously installed on this computer will still
work.
